Theresa May has come under fire from Jewish Care chief executive Simon Morris for making only a passing mention of social care in the Queen's Speech.

Mr Morris said: “Social care was a key election issue for all parties and, as we all know, became a contentious issue for the Conservative Party. No one will dispute the desperate need for a total rethink when it comes to social care. It isn’t an easy debate.

"The concern I share with colleagues in the sector is that this issue will be put on hold in the same way Dilnot’s 'care cap' proposals were. We need the cross-party social care review Mrs May promised and we need it now."

Norwood chief executive Elaine Kerr hoped "the lack of mention of social care means the government is reconsidering its position, both for the short and long term. We await with great anticipation the Green Paper promised before the election."
