Political, civic and church representatives attended a farewell tea party for Rev Ze'ev and Yaffa Amit at Catford and Bromley Synagogue.

Many tributes were paid to the minister, who is moving to Israel. Shul chair Gerald Rose presented him with a certificate marking his new role as emeritus minister.

He also received an album of photos reflecting his time with the community.

Guests penned personal messages in a book which was handed over at the end of the party by vice-chair Carole Abrahams. "You have opened doors that we didn't know existed," she told him.
