Two sisters have launched a world record charity attempt to raise awareness of pulmonary hypertension, an incurable lung condition which claimed the life of their sister.

Prestwich-based teachers Kerry Freedman, 36, and Abbie Kohanzad, 28, donned blue lipstick on Sunday in support of charity The Pulmonary Hypertension Association (PHA-UK), which is hoping to get 40,000 blue lipstick prints across 23 countries to smash a Guinness world record. The blue-lipped sisters also completed the 10-kilometre Great Manchester charity run wearing T-shirts featuring a picture of their sister Victoria Lynn, who died of the condition in 2003 aged 20.

Mrs Kohanzad said it was a proud moment for her sister's memory. "It's a real honour for people to see her picture and realise why we are running. The lipstick made us look stupid but it gets the point across."

Blue lips are one of the signs of the rare condition which affects 4,000 people in the UK. The sisters also raised £2,600 for PHA-UK by running. Its spokesman, Paul Pennington, paid tribute to Victoria's family. "As longstanding supporters they have raised thousands of pounds for this condition."

Israelis will also take part in a world record attempt in June with a kissing wall in Tel Aviv to capture the prints needed.
