Two Reform youth movement leaders have been running a summer camp for underprivileged children.
Emma Mittelman and Manya Eversley came up with the idea as 15-year-olds at RSY-Netzer's summer camp.
Four years on, the friends raised more than £5,000 to establish Summer Hype, a five-day residential camp for 40 Hackney nine- and 10-year-olds from impoverished backgrounds.
The camp was led by a team of 10 volunteers on "a programme filled with sports, drama, arts and interesting discussions", Ms Mittleman said.
"We were learning about child poverty in the UK and thinking what we could actually do.
"Manya is from Hackney and so we talked with her old primary school there."
The schools involved were selected on the basis of the number of pupils on free meals.
Ms Mittelman was "really excited by the reaction we have got from our communities and the wider community", including a grant from the National Lottery Big Give Fund.
"It is really encouraging to have so many people who have backed us and wanted it to work. It's crazy that this is all happening and we have been so excited."
