Barnet Council is scrapping its Pesach skips for Jewish residents and will instead provide special refuse collection services.
The special collections will be in designated streets in Golders Green, Hendon and Edgware over the period of April 6-8.
Residents in other streets can arrange for additional collections between March 30 and April 7. The service is free.
A council spokesperson explained the system had been changed “to ensure it’s dedicated to the collection of genuine Passover refuse. Our scheme will prevent people filling skips with all sorts of items. Further information will be passed to synagogues and people should check with us to find out which roads we will be servicing.”
A Hendon Synagogue representative had no problem with the change: “As long as the rubbish is collected then it serves exactly the same function as before.”
Residents can call 020 8359 5005 to check if their road will be among those receiving the special collections. Those in non-designated roads can contact the same number from March 30 to arrange a Pesach collection.
