A £10,000 Lottery grant has been awarded to a parent support group for children with learning disabilities.

Jewish Autistic and Deficit Disorders Support (Jadds), which aids 80 families in Manchester, will use the Awards for All grant to fund an awareness campaign and training for teachers.

On Monday, 200 teachers from Jewish schools attended a training day at Salford's Beis Yaakov High to hear from experts in autism. The funding also helped Jadds run its first social event on Sunday. Thirty-three children and their parents enjoyed a pre-Chanucah party, soft play and sensory rooms at a specially built facility in Bury.

Prestwich-based Julia Gadian who has an autistic child, said the event provided relief for parents.
