The Chief Rabbi has called for the community to do more to help Jewish refugees in Ukraine in an open letter. signed by senior figures from across Jewish religious movements.
The letter urged British Jews to support the work of World Jewish Relief in providing aid to the thousands of Jews who were facing "an unprecedented threat" as a result of the fighting between Ukrainian forces and Russian separatists in the east of the country.
"The UK Jewish community must - and will - do more to stand with those under fire on our doorstep and we encourage the community to support this vital humanitarian cause," the letter stated.
It was signed by Danny Rich, Laura Janner-Klausner and Jonathan Wittenberg, respectively the senior rabbis of the Liberal, Reform and Masorti movements, as well as senior Sephardi rabbi Joseph Dweck.
Other signatories included Mick Davis, chairman of the Jewish Leadership Council and Board of Deputies president Vivian Wineman, and James Libson, chairman of WJR.
