Graphic designer Chloe Wolfe-Cowen has come up with an entertaining way for children to tell their Jewish mothers what they long to hear — or read — this mother’s day.
Miss Wolfe-Cowen, a website designer for high street retailer Urban Outfitters, has created a range of cards targeted specifically at Jewish mothers.
Messages include; “Nobody does chicken soup better than you do”, “Okay, okay, I’ll go on JDate”, and “I promise I will either marry a doctor or a lawyer or become a doctor or a lawyer, or better still, marry and become a doctor or a lawyer.”
The enterprise is a joint initiative between Ms Wolfe-Cowen and fellow graphic designer Jen Charon.
“All the cards are based on my Jewish mother,” Ms Wolfe-Cowen, 27, tells People.
“I think she’s quite proud to be the inspiration.” She adds: “I had always found it very difficult to find the right card for any occasion, and Jewish mother’s day cards don’t exist.” So, the pair teamed up to create their own as a side-project.
Available online, the hand-printed cards cost £3 each. There is still time to order and receive yours in time for Sunday. The designers, who met while studying at the University of Brighton, have previously developed “Kosher for Christmas” cards and “Jewish Valentine’s day” cards. They plan to create cards for more occasions. How about daughter’s day? Apparently this takes place every day of the year — so my Jewish mother, who really does do the best chicken soup, tells me.
