Singletons among you may wish to take note or, indeed, those who simply like to keep their options open. There is a new Jewish dating website — and it is up and running.
Called notanotherjewdo.com, it combines dating with social networking and aims to provide serious competition for JDate as the top online meeting place for Jewish singles in the UK. Its creator is 28-year-old Chloe Laughton, an advertising account director from north London.
She tells People: “I would talk to my single friends and it annoyed me that they were not getting the service they deserved. I thought that if I was single, I wouldn’t want to go on JDate. It shocked me that no one was innovating within this market.”
Promoted as “the alternative dating scene”, notanotherjewdo.com is, says Miss Laughton, “the alternative to being set up or hanging out at a ‘Jew do’ because you feel that’s where you should go to meet someone”. She adds: “I was setting my friends up left, right and centre, and joked that I should have a laminated list of potential suitors with me at all times. I was subconsciously becoming a matchmaker.” And Miss Laughton has now turned it into a reality. Notanotherjewdo.com went live last week.
The site enables you to upload videos, send someone you fancy a personalised cupcake or, if that’s too forward, simply ‘pssst’ them to let them know you are interested. There is also a link-up with a kosher catering firm for those wanting to date over a meal; and the “notanotherjewishmother” service, whereby users can get relationship advice from a “real-life” Jewish mother.
Miss Laughton works at VCCP advertising company but admits she would like to work full-time on the website — and for it to achieve global reach. “I am massively excited about it and hope the Jewish community get behind it and see it as something positive. I understand how to keep a brand going, not letting it get stagnant, which is what I think has happened to JDate.”
So, will she being using the site’s services? Sorry guys — she has a boyfriend.
