UK Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis echoed a global call to fight domestic violence today.
As patron of the Jewish Women's Aid charity, he attended a stall in the Brent Cross Shopping Centre in north-west London to increase aware of domestic violence in the Jewish community.
A spokesman said the Rabbi Mirvis was there “to stress the importance of confronting domestic abuse within our community”.
The trademark JWA purple stand was erected to coincide with today’s global International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
It is believed that one in four Jewish women are affected by domestic violence in the UK – a figure in line with the national average.
Rabbi Mirvis was joined by JWA’s executive director Naomi Dickson and board co-chairs Hilda Worth and Liz Gould at the stand today.
Dayan Gelley, of the London Beth Din, also attended the event.
