The wife of the former prime minister, Tony Blair, is a major supporter of a women’s empowerment scheme in Israel. Cherie Blair (below) has, through her charitable foundation, helped to fund a programme at the Western Galilee College in Acre, where 40 per cent of the 4,700 students are Arab. The scheme is designed to support 20 students — 10 Jewish, 10 Arab — taking courses in economics and business.
