Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has seen his fortune rise by nearly £3 billion in the last year in a bumper year for Britain's wealthiest people.
The Russian Jewish oil tycoon, who was the second biggest faller in terms of wealth in 2009, was named as Britain's third richest person on this year's Sunday Times Rich List.
Despite being worth £10.3 billion, Mr Abramovich actually slipped from second place in the annual wealth register as Britain's richest achieved an 18 per cent rise in their collective wealth on 2010. His former wife Irina appeared second on the list of wealthiest millionaires from divorce.
Iraqi-Jewish brothers, property entrepreneurs David and Simon Reuben were also in the top ten, climbing from 16th last year, while retailing giant Sir Philip Green fell from ninth place to number 13.
Laurence Graff, the jeweller who set a record last year when he paid more than £29 million for a 24.78-carat "fancy intense pink" diamond at auction, saw his fortune rise by £800 million.
Travelex founder Lloyd Dorfman, who in October announced a £10 million donation to the National Theatre, fell eight places but saw his fortune go up by £50 million.
Zef Eisenberg, whose Maximuscle company is the nation's largest supplier of sports nutritional products, shot from 1001st place in 2010 to 859th this year.
A number of Jewish businessmen and women placed highly on the newspaper's Giving List, including Dame Vivien Duffield, Lord Fink, Sir Ronnie Cohen and Lily Safra, whose fortune fell by £14 million in the last year. Bahamas-based financier and Tottenham Hotspur owner Joe Lewis gave £61.5 million away to medical research.
According to the list, Apprentice judge Lord Sugar – down four places to 89th – was the eight most generous political donor last year, giving £400,000 to the Labour Party. Other top donors included Lord Fink and BICOM chairman Poju Zabludowicz, both Conservative supporters.
Singer Amy Winehouse and Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe were among the 50 richest under the age of 30.
