The Charity Commission has appointed an interim manager for the Genesis Philanthropy Group as part of its statutory inquiry into the organisation.

The regulator opened its investigation in March after the government sanctioned three of its founding trustees, Mikhail Fridman, Petr Aven and German Khan, in its moves against Russian oligarchs following Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.

The GPG has been a major backer of Jewish causes in the UK including JW3 and a number of charities involved with Jewish education and youth.

Interim manager Emma Moody of Womble Bond Dickinson UK (LLP) will manage funds in the charity’s bank account.

The inquiry will examine whether the charity can continue to operate and whether its trustees discharged their legal responsibilities and duties in its administration.
