Does this woman remind you of anyone? A dead ringer for Helena Bonham Carter, working mum Caron Joseph has earned a reputation as the actress’s professional look-alike.
But now Mrs Joseph has a new role. She is starring in playwright Simon Mendes da Costa’s family comedy Losing Louis. Running at the Abbey Theatre in St Albans, the play is set in both the 1950s and the present day. It deals with the issue of Jewish identity and the tensions between being born Jewish and converting, between marrying out and converting in.
Mrs Joseph plays housewife Bobbie. She says she was drawn to the role after reading the play two years ago. Mrs Joseph tells People: “I fell in love with the part and although I had not acted for many years while I was bringing up my children, I decided to audition.” She adds: “It is funny because I am Jewish but I am playing the only non-Jewish part in the play. I love the play as it is so touching.” Is she nervous about performing after a long break? “I am, but what I would love is to make people laugh and cry with this character.” The play was originally staged at the Hampstead Theatre, before transferring to the West End.
