The Board of Deputies has condemned a Conservative university society, after its members were pictured sporting a Hitler moustache and the word “Jude” next to a Star of David.
The picture, which was published on the front page of Wednesday's Daily Mirror, showed Plymouth University Conservatives during a night out. One person is seen wearing a “F*** the NHS” slogan on their t-shirt, while another has messages referring to Barack Obama.
The Board of Deputies said: “These were disgraceful scenes. We hope that the investigation will be swift and that firm action is taken against any party members involved.”
The Conservative Party told the Mirror it had launched an immediate investigation into the picture and any party members involved would be suspended.
The university students’ union also suspended the association, pending an investigation.
In a statement, it said: “We totally condemn behaviour of this kind along with all forms of racism and antisemitism.”
The university said it “does not tolerate antisemitic or racist behaviour under any circumstance and will take disciplinary action in line with our procedures in the event of incidents such as this.”
