Board of Deputies president Jonathan Arkush has condemned the Palestinian Authority for inciting a wave of violence against Israelis.

He also criticised section of the British media for distorted reporting of the crisis.

In his President's Statement to Deputies ahead of Sunday's Board meeting, Mr Arkush said he could not ignore the “shameful” incitement to violence by the PA and President Mahmoud Abbas which “has resulted in the deaths of Israelis trying to live normal lives”.

He added: “I therefore will continue to say without hesitation that Israeli lives matter”, referring to the hashtag used to promote the pro-Israel protest held outside the Palestinian mission in London this week.

Mr Arkush said he was “troubled by the near deafening silence of the United Nations and world powers while the numbers of Israeli victims of the Palestinian Authority’s current campaign of incitement continues to grow."

He had been appalled by the now infamous BBC headline 'Palestinian shot dead after Jerusalem attack kills two' which completely failed to mention that the Palestinian who was shot dead had perpetrated the attack against innocent Israelis,” he said.

“I was also very troubled by the report of the BBC’s Orla Guerin who seemed to be more interested in interviewing the father of a terrorist killed while carrying out an attack than in reporting on the innocent victims of terror.

"There were also misleading reports in the Metro newspaper."

The Board has requested a meeting with the BBC to discuss its reporting.
