articlemain

An election manifesto with a difference has been launched by the Board of Deputies.

Aimed at giving prospective MPs a better understanding of the Jewish community's interests, 2015 General Election: A Jewish Manifesto covers issues including Holocaust education, welfare concerns and cemetery maintenance.

The Board intends to distribute the 40-page document among current MPs hoping for re-election next May, as well as candidates standing for the first time.

The manifesto includes "policy asks", which the Board wants candidates to pledge to support, including defence of brit milah and shechita, security for Jewish schools, and supporting Shoah education.

It also encourages parliamentarians to back 10 "commitments" to support the Jewish way of life, oppose hate crimes and promote peace in the Middle East.
