Ben Winston, the Jewish director and producer, is part of the team charged with bringing a new Top of the Pops-style music show to the BBC.

Production company Fulwell 73, whose partners include Mr Winston, actor and presenter James Corden and Jewish writer/director Gabe Turner, will make the six-part series, the BBC has announced.

The 30-minute show, as yet untitled, will include interviews and sketches as well as music performances.

In a tweet, Mr Winston, who is executive producer of Mr Corden's The Late, Late Show, wrote: “Very excited about this news. Honoured that we at @Fulwell 73 are making a new music show for the BBC.”

Top of the Pops was dropped by the BBC in 2006 amid falling ratings.
