Cancer survivor Barbara Bofkin is doing her bit to give others hope of overcoming the disease.
Mrs Bofkin, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006, has compiled a cook book with all proceeds going to Breast Cancer Campaign. The cash will help fund research into why Jewish women are predisposed to the BRCA1 gene and therefore at higher risk of developing cancer.
The book features recipes from her family and friends across the globe. “When I was ill, I was given the new drug Herceptin. Someone had campaigned for it to be made available. I feel that you can’t take something without giving something back.” The Little Lions Cook Book, named after the parent-toddler group that she runs in Mill Hill, north London, costs £10. It was sponsored by local retailers Stollers, Louis Mann, Profile, Harpers and Kink hair salon, among others. “There is a lot of competition between charities and I don’t want to be competitive. I will raise what I can.”
