PE teacher Amy Newsome is hoping to find the sports stars of the future. The 27-year-old, who teaches at North London Collegiate School for girls, has set up a sports camp for girls aged seven to 11.
“It prides itself on being more like a coaching clinic than a summer camp,” she tells People. “Many of the camps aimed at younger children don’t teach specific sports, as they also involve other activities such as arts and crafts and drama. In my experience, girls love the competitive sports, so I wanted to set something up more geared to that.”
The New Stars camps aim to improve skill levels in netball and pop lacrosse. Miss Newsome says that with the many other distractions that children face, PE is more important than ever. A former England lacrosse player, she recently returned from the Maccabiah Games, where she captained the ladies’ netball team. She plays lacrosse for Harpenden and netball for Old Fincunians.
The next camp runs from September 1-4.
