Ami Wynbourne is running a gym that frum women want to use

articlemain

It has just become a whole lot easier for Orthodox women in Britain to work out.

Fitness fan Ami Wynbourne recently introduced to London a ladies-only gym chain, aimed specifically at the frum Jewish community. And he is now keen to expand across the country.

Mr Wynbourne, 30, says he noticed a gap in the market for a ladies-only exercise studio, which led him to the USA where he bought the Contours Express master franchise for the UK. It is aimed at women who want to work out exclusively among women in order to preserve their modesty. He tells People: “I spoke to a lot of religious women in the UK and realised that many didn’t feel comfortable working out in front of men.

“There are gyms that have women-only areas but you often have to walk past men to get there.” The Contours Express gym in Hendon is not open on Shabbat and all the machines are designed for women.

“We hope to see a Contours Express on every high street throughout the country,” says Mr Wynbourne, who used to work in property. Bournemouth-born, he now lives in north London.
