New Israel ambassador to the UK Mark Regev has held talks with Middle East Minister Tobias Ellwood.

The meeting, which took place on Tuesday, the first between the two men since Mr Regev took up his role at the beginning of the month.

Mr Ellwood said: “I was delighted to meet Israel's new Ambassador to the UK Mark Regev and welcome him to the role.

“We discussed a range of issues including Israel’s security, economic matters and steps towards peace in the region. I look forward to working closely with Mr Regev and building on what is already a strong relationship between the UK and Israel.”

Meanwhile, the Oxford Palestine Solidarity Campaign has called for a protest ahead of Mr Regev’s talk tonight at the Oxford Union debating society.

The ambassador will be speaking on “Middle East Reality Check – The Road to Peace”.
