A film about the life of Holocaust survivor Alice Herz-Sommer was honoured at the Oscars last night,picking up the award for best short documentary.
The Lady in Number 6: Music Saved My Life, directed by Malcolm Clarke, tells the story of how Mrs Herz-Sommer survived a Nazi concentration to become a professional musician, and celebrated her ability to overcome the trauma of her youth.
Mrs Herz-Sommer died only last week at the age of 110.
Other winners on the night included Cate Blancett as best actress for her role in Woody Allen's film Blue Jasmine and Mexican-Jewish cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki, whose work on the sci-fi drama Gravity was recognised with the best cinematography award, one of seven won by the film, including best director for Alfonso Cuaron.
The Oscar for best film went to 12 Years a Slave, while Matthew McConaughey won best actor for Dallas Buyers Club.
