What with Channel 4's The Promise and a documentary on children in Gaza, TV coverage of Israel was grimmer than usual this week. But a moment's relief came on BBC1's Graham Norton Show on Monday. A young woman in the red chair slot, where members of the public tell anecdotes, introduced herself as "Netanya" from Norfolk.

The chat show host looked perplexed, until celebrity guest, actress Sigourney Weaver, who has worked on a kibbutz, explained that this was the name of a town in Israel. How Netanya came to be so named we learned when she was followed in the red chair by Debbie from Norfolk, her mother.

Having visited the town when pregnant, Debbie said, "I did one of those things and just named her after the place". "A beautiful place," said Ms Weaver.
