If Jerusalem’s slew of luxe hotels — which currently include the King David and David’s Citadel — do not offer you enough options for opulence, you will welcome the news that Waldorf-Astoria, owners of the legendary New York property, is to open a 220-room hotel in the city at the end of 2010. To be known as The Palace Jerusalem — The Waldorf-Astoria Collection, the hotel is superbly located at the intersection of King David, Agron and Mamilla streets, just steps from the new Mamilla Mall and the Old City. A historic building once a government ministry, it will retain its stunning Ottoman façade, while facilities will include three restaurants, spa, fitness facility and pool, conference facilities, parking and 30 apartments.

Those who fancy joining him among the spectators at the Monaco Grand Prix, taking place at the end of this month, will relish adventure travel company Black Tomato’s three-night Grand Prix breaks which include entry to some exclusive Monaco parties. A truly glamour-filled experience, the breaks also feature helicopter transfers, stunning accommodation with breakfast, flights from Heathrow and, of course, those VIP parties. They cost from £999 per person based on two sharing (020 7610 9008).
