Talking about I’d Do Anything last week Notebook shared the nightmare vision of Fagin being considered as one of the characters open to the programme’s competitors. In 1968, Ron Moody’s funny and warm-hearted Fagin wrenched from the public consciousness what many saw as Sir Alec Guinness’s antisemitic portrayal. With the news that Rowan Atkinson has now been cast as Dickens’s Jew, Notebook forecasts a Moody Fagin.
