An Israeli Arab who heads an Akko community centre promoting coexistence made a flying UK visit to comfort a terminally ill Harrow woman who supports his work.

Artist and author Gilda Zeitlin and her husband, Graham, first visited Mohammed Fahili's Sir Charles Clore centre, promoting Arab-Israeli co-operation, four years ago. "The place is so inspiring," Mr Zeitlin said. "Mohammed and his team bring poor people together from all backgrounds, providing high-quality, low-cost services such as women's clubs and summer camps.

"When I told Mohammed that Gilda was terminally ill, he immediately said he would come to the UK to see her. She said it was wonderful that he came all this way. He really helped her."
