A new society for Jewish postgraduates and mature students has been set up in Yorkshire.
Leeds students Michael Kay and Kate Sutton, along with Julia Doff from Manchester University, set up the Jewish Postgraduate society (JPG) last month.
"We want to provide a different flavour from the usual JSoc events," said Michael, 23, who is studying for a PhD in the history of science.
"We aren't the first to try this. UJS did something similar years ago, but there wasn't much interest – possibly because there weren't so many students.
"But with more people taking postgraduate courses, we have got a really positive response."
Yorkshire chaplain Rabbi Russ Shulkes said the first JPG event - a wine and cheese evening - had been a great success.
"There was a clear sense that it was something new and special," he said. "While JSocs do a phenomenal job, it's not always possible to focus on each group."
Michael said he hopes JPG will extend to campuses across Britain. Students at Edinburgh University have already expressed interest.
Future JPG events include a steam train trip around Bronte Country and a visit to Bradford's National Media Museum.
