At last, a new boutique hotel has opened in Anguilla It's taken six years but perhaps the Zemi Beach House was worth waiting for.
The hotel was developed by the Goldstein family of New York, who had been visiting Anguilla for many years. They spotted an opportunity to build on the site of an old property that had a sensational location on one of the Caribbean's best beaches - Shoal Bay beach.
With two miles of pink-hued white sand and intense turquoise waters this is a very dreamy scene.
Designed by Caribbean architect Lane Pettigrew, the property blends well with its environment and its classic lines and sunny colour-schemes are true to Caribbean style. There are also appealing whimsical Anguillan touches such as the chandelier made of sticks at the reception entrance.
The resort's symbol is the three-point stone zemi, worshipped by Anguilla's ancient Taino Indians who believed it to be the dwelling place of ancestral spirits.
There 70 bedrooms, (nine of them suites with plunge pools) furnished in neutral tones with bright Anguillan touches such as stunning prints and vases . All come with a huge bath tub in the marble floored bathroom.
Facilities include the Zemi Thai House spa - a building that was transported from Thailand to Anguilla in the 1980s.
Dining is at both indoor and fabulous outdoor locations and there are five food and beverage concepts including Stone, 20 Knots, Shoal Bay Beach Club located on the seafront, Provisions and the lovely blue and gold Rhum Room. Don't miss the Ghost Pirate cocktail.
