It's easy to walk past myhotel Bloomsbury and not realise it's a newish, stylish but extremely reasonably-priced place to lay your head in the middle of the West End. Never, surely, has such a centrally-placed hostelry hidden its light under a bushel to such an extent, or perhaps it's just overshadowed by the wild success of its restaurant, the excellent Israeli-owned Gail's Kitchen, not to mention a branch of its parent bakery on the other side of the inconspicuous lobby.
The hotel itself is low-key, but not a bit bland or boring, with guestroom decor an interesting mix of designer and vintage pieces featuring strong colours, interesting wallpaper and fine linens. The design is more than just cosmetic; feng shui principles have been put to work to ensure a seriously serene stay.
It must be said that some rooms are a tad pokey, and the only facilities to speak of, apart from the wonderful eating arrangements, are a spa treatment room offering extremely well-priced body treatments, facials, waxing and mani-pedis, some small meeting spaces, and a partnership with the nearby YMCA for those who cannot miss their workout when travelling. A few special rooms at a considerable upcharge deserve a mention, such as the Shipibo room named after an ancient Amazon tribe of healers and furnished with their handiwork.
There is also a pair of hidden suites, each enjoying a secret terrace overlooking the rooftops of West One.
