Businessman Tim Angel will never be short of something to wear. The chairman of Angels costumiers, he recently bought the BBC costume collection — comprising more than one million costumes — to add to his company’s existing three million outfits. Among them are pieces from Life on Mars, ’Allo ’Allo, Doctor Who and Extras.
According to Mr Angel, all the clothes laid out would amount to more than 7 miles of costume. “This is one of the most varied collections I have bought,” Mr Angel, who has been working in the family business for the past 40 years, tells People. “When I started working at Angels, one of my aims was to acquire the BBC collection, so to have bought the stock is great. To be able to buy a large collection of 60s and 70s original costumes is fantastic for the future of the company.”
The pieces are available for private hire, and to TV and film productions from the company’s HQ in Hendon, North London. Prices range from £20 to £200.
Founded in 1840 by Morris Angel, Angels claims to be the world’s longest-established supplier of costumes to the film, theatre, and television industries, undertaking around 1,000 TV, film and theatre projects a year.
Mr Angel is the fifth generation of his family to head the firm.
He lives in Stanmore, Middlesex, and is a member of West London Synagogue.
