The top jackets you should buy during this autumn season

Those versatile, age-defying tweedy jackets inspired by Coco’s 1954 original are, once again, achingly on-trend — this time thanks to the V&A’s long-heralded, blockbuster Chanel exhibition which opened last weekend.

Covetable versions of this iconic jacket are available in neutrals from many brands including Me+Em, LK Bennett, Gerard Darel and Mango and in punchy shades at Gucci and Self Portrait. An actual Chanel is available new for — brace yourself — £6k or “pre-loved” from £1.5k.

There are also tweedy jackets with collar, oversize pockets and often a roomier cut that are more shacket than Chanel. Find them from many brands including Essentiel Antwerp, Cos and Zara.

Basic jeans jackets continue, and work well under a trench or coat when the temperature drops. Elevated jeans jackets, which began on the runways of McQueen and Loewe et al, are more affordable at brands including Cos, Boden and Zara.

Blazers are also offered by Saint Laurent and Balmain, but also by Boden, Mango, Zara and M&S — in all cuts, lengths, hues and fabrics.
