Dave Woolman scored twice as Leeds Maccabi 1st cruised to victory over basement boys Northern Star.

The in-form striker grabbed an early brace before Richard Black and Curtis Bitton-Price wrapped up the points for Ian Selwyn’s men.

“It should have been double figures,” said Selwyn.

“We had a lot of chances but Northern Star are a poor side and they’ve been getting beaten heavily in recent weeks.

“We were three goals up at the break and perhaps the boys weren’t as motivated because the opposition were so poor.

“It just wasn’t a good game and I’m happy to take the win and move on because we’ve got a big month coming up.”

It didn’t take long for the prolific Woolman to break the deadlock after he beat two defenders and fired home from 10 yards.

His second quickly followed when Northern Star failed to clear Bitton-Price’s corner and Woolman took advantage to smash home from close-range.

Maccabi continued to create chances with Bitton-Price and Black both hitting the woodwork.

Black did eventually add a third 10 minutes before the break to give Maccabi a three-goal advantage at the interval.

Selwyn’s side continued their bombardment of the Norther Star goal in the second-half with Bitton-Price smashing the woodwork once again.

But the talented midfielder did finally get on the scoresheet after finishing off a flowing five-man move late on.

“The fifth goal was a lovely goal and the best bit of football we played all day,” said Selwyn.

“Now we need to move on because we’ve got a big game against Waggon FC next week and that will be a tough one.

“Results suggest they’re one of the better teams in the division so it’s time for us to send everyone a message by getting a win.”

Meanwhile, Leeds Maccabi 2nd suffered a 10-0 defeat by league leaders West Leeds Wortley in their latest Division One match.

The result leaves Simon Fisher's men bottom of the league without a win from their opening six games.
