Heaton Park Rovers player-boss David Seligman has set his sights on halting Maccabi Manchester 2nds juggernaut.

HPR, who had the luxury of resting several key players ahead of the Harold Feldman Cup final, signed off their league season with a hard-fought victory over the students of Oakhill.

Jonathan Franks opened the scoring before Oakhill hit back via Richard Sandberg.

A long-range strike from super-sub Alex Warents settled the contest as HPR warmed up for their big day out at Oldham’s Boundary Park with a morale-boosting win.

Seligman told JC Sport: "We rested a few players with the cup final in mind. It’s always good for the confidence to win, but we know we face a different task now.

"They are a good side who have beaten us twice comfortably this season. That underlines the job we face. But we will embrace being underdogs. We know all about them and their strengths.

"They are going for the treble - but I think we can surprise them and spoil their party."
