The race, held along the Olympic course, was intended to be a test run for the real thing in July but because of coronavirus, fewer than 200 elite athletes took part, the mass race for 38,000 participants was cancelled and spectators were encouraged to stay away.

Meanwhile, with organisers of the London Marathon responding to health concerns this week by stating that they will continue to “monitor the situation,” preparations for the April 26 event are ongoing and a number of young London-based Jewish athletes have had their selections for the three-mile Mini Marathon confirmed.

They are: Dina Silverman, Phoebe Music, Jordan Pearlman and Pinni Bayvel-Zayats (U13); Rachel Pearlman, Sam Greenstein and Dovi Levin (U15); and Maayan Radus, Jack Davis-Black and Bini Bloom (U17).

The final month of the indoor season began with more championship medals for Angelica Mayer, who marked her fourth consecutive appearance at the Scottish National Championships with silver in the U15 60m and long jump (7.86 and 5.12m) and a bronze in the 200m (25.47).
