Stone sparkles in U16 race at Jerusalem 10k

David Stone won the under-16 trophy at the Jerusalem 10K, finishing 68 seconds ahead of the 531-strong field.

Competing in his first race over the distance, Stone, 14, broke the tape in a time of 37:53 for the hilly and demanding road course to place 10th out of 7,364 runners overall.

"I entered this race because of the London Mini-Marathon clashing with Pesach this year,” said Stone, who ran in support of the Duchenne Research Fund as one of his closest friends has the condition.

"It was a wonderful experience, passing through historic sites such as the Jaffa Gate, Mamilla and Machane Yehuda," he said. "The start was very crowded, but I did not suffer any jostling. In fact, for much of the race I was running on my own.
