Staying power takes Hendon through

The visitors were forced to play with only 10 men after one of their players went off injured after 25 minutes, and they did not have any subs.

Delighted Hendon boss David Garbacz told JC Sport: "This was a highly enjoyable cup tie played in great spirit by both teams and we had to dig enormously deep to win through.

"I think the lunchtime kick off put us off a bit early on as it looked as if a few of our boys had eaten too much salt beef and it hadn't quite digested yet.

"We found ourselves right up against it at 2-0 down at half time although we knew we were still very much in the game especially with our opposition down to 10 men.

"In the second half we really turned on the heat and found more of our Maccabi form and eventually after knocking pretty loudly on the door it finally opened with two late goals from the brilliant Greg Corin who was sensational today and supersub Avidan Last who once again found himself in the right place at the right time with virtually the last kick of the game.

"We were able to turn the screw in extra time as our gallant opponents ran out of steam. It was very satisfying to win today and keep up our momentum and to know that we are still challenging on all fronts this year.

"This was a new test for us today and at one time it looked as if we were not going to pass it. However, we have enormous belief in ourselves this year and I was very proud of all the boys from 1-13 today for coming though.

"Well done to the opposition today as well who were an absolute pleasure to play against and they were an absolute credit to their league the way they fought so hard and made it so difficult for us."
