Dudi Sela marched into the second round of the Australian Open following a marathon five-set victory over Germany's Jan Lennard Struff (57).
Sela, 29, defied his ranking of 106 to come from behind to claim a 6-4, 4-6, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 victory in 210 minutes, to reach the second round of the grand slam tournament for the fourth time in his career.
The Israeli was in typically energetic form, chasing some lost causes as he reached the first time since 2009.
He will play 28th seed Lukas Rosol of the Czech Republic in next round.
Sela was cheered on by dozens of fans chanting "Dudi King of Israel" throughout the match, and he celebrated with them after the victory.
There was disappointment in the Ladies Singles event as Shahar Peer and Julia Glushko bowed out in the qualifiers.
