Israel’s top stars made winning starts at Wimbledon on Monday.
Shahar Peer was relieved to make a winning return following a six-week injury-enforced absence.
Her 6-2, 7-6 victory featured a dramatic second set comeback from 5-1 down.
She said: "I had my ups and downs but overall, kept myself together and found a way to win the match after a slow start."
She meets 10th seed Nadia Petrova in round two. She has yet to beat the Russian.
Dudi Sela maintained his winning ways with a hard fought 6-4, 4-6, 7-6, 6-3 win over Mexican Santiago Gonzalez.
The highest-ranked Israeli believes that there is plenty of room for improvement. "I didn't play well today," he said.
"I played better last week. The conditions were tough, the ball was heavy and it was tough against a guy with a big serve.But I've got more experience now, and played well at the important moments.
Americans Wayne Odesnik and qualifier Jesse Levine are in action on day two, while Scott Lipsky opens up in the doubles.
