Defending champions Hendon put in a five-star display to beat Redbridge Jewish Care in the match of the day as players from the JC MSFL returned to action following the winter break. There was also a good win for SPEC FC at Glenthorne, while Hendon C put in a determined effort to frustrate Oakwood B in Division Three. Danny Caro reflects on Matchday 17 of the season.

Oakwood are into the quarter-finals of the Herts Junior County Cup following a convincing 5-2 victory over Thundridge.
Josh Rubin, Carl Peters, Adam Levine (2) and Daniel Geey were the goal men in another impressive performance from the winning Oakwood machine.
Oaks joint-manager Alex Schock told JC Sport: "We didn't have our best day at the office which is normally the case after the holidays, and the pitch was difficult but we were the better team and missed a whole host of chances.
"We're representing our League well in the cup and we believe we have a real chance, but must improve in the next round.
"We're now looking forward to the CA cup next week."

As predicted, Temple Fortune won a five-goal thriller in east London with the dynamic Dan Orgel sending them through with a quality brace including a last-ditch winner.
Michael Goldberg cracked home the other as Lee Fegan's men started the year where they finished off in 2012.

Jubilant Fortune manager manager Lee Fegan said: "Overall, it's been a determined and hard-working display by the team in a tough tie which was well-refereed by Tony McEvoy.

Defending champions Hendon put five past 2011 winners Redbridge in an eight-goal thriller at Fairlop as David Garbacz's men started the new year in style.
A brace from Dovid Korman plus one apiece from Avidan Last, Greg Corin and Danny Kon sealed Hendon's six win of the season and moves them to within two points of leaders Faithfold.
Redbridge's goals came through Danny Sugarman, Jack Van Gelder and Steve Summers.
Jubilant Hendon boss David Garbacz told JC Sport: "We carried on where we finished off at the end of last year and at the same time broke the Redbridge curse that has haunted us for the past couple of years and boy did it feel good.
"For 60 minutes we were sensational and played them off the park - scoring four goals in the process. Dovid Korman was running rings in midfield and defensively we were looking secure.
"Whilst we credit them for their football and fighting spirit - some of the shocking tackles that always fly in whenever Redbridge are losing are so predictable and the ref did very well to just about keep things under control.
Redbridge manager Eilon Kennet told JC Sport: "Hendon were a little bit sharper and got the breaks in front of goal in the first half, leaving us with the proverbial mountain to climb in the second.
"Nevertheless, we restructured at half time and went for it and it almost came off. So, despite the defeat, we finished the game with our heads held high, knowing that had we started as well as we finished we could have won the game.
"It was a classic game of two halves. I hope we learn from this."

Two goals from recent signing Lee Cash guided the Lions to their third league win of the season against fellow strugglers Norstar in Harrow.
There were also goals from James Gershfield and defender Nick Landesberg.
Norstar's consolation came through Adam Kaldor.
Lions joint-player-manager Andy Landesberg told JC Sport: "This was a superb effort by 11 Lions, who had their backs against the wall at the kick off, they showed what this team is all about, they gave 100 per cent and more, every one of them, and the Norstar players thought that perhaps this was going to be their day.
"Never under-estimate a Lions team, especially when they look like they could be weak."

BRADY PUSH FAITHFOLD ALL THE WAY

Leaders Faithfold had to settle for a point as a resurgent Brady gave them an almighty scare in an early kick-off at Rowley Lane.
Dan Perkins put Faithfold ahead but Brady deservedly drew level five minutes before half time when Josh Hershman pounced a half clearance to slam the ball home.
Brady forged ahead in the second half when Bradley Sharp hit a 30-yard pass straight into the path of the advancing Ben Joseph who met it with a bullet header, but Faithfold showed their title qualities with Mike Pearson bundling home the equaliser from close range 10 minutes from time.
Brady boss Joel Nathan told JC Sport: "It was a great game which probably ended with the correct result. I was extremely proud of the boys today - they showed that with a full squad liked we had today we are a match for anyone in this league.
"The boys played their best football of the season in the first 60 minutes and fully deserved something out of the game. We are now unbeaten in six games and we will look to continue that next week against NLR.
"The game was a great advert for the Maccabi League, with both teams putting on a great game for the spectators."
Faithfold manager Zuriel Solomon told JC Sport: "I am happy with our determination to get a point against a good team. We dug in and scored the equaliser after dominating the second half but couldn't find the winner."

Relieved NWN boss Daniel Hodes told JC Sport: "The goal rounded off a great game from Rob, alongside Jon Kaye at centre back. They were both imense for us and the whole team battled their way to three points."
Faithfold assistant-player-manager Ben Lewis told JC Sport: "It was a good game and we were very unlucky not to at least get something from it."

A brace from Israeli veteran Assi Avital and one from Matt Radstone clinched UJIA's first win of the season.

Daniel Lassman was the match-winner as Glenthorne returned to the top of the table with a hard-earned victory over Harmen.
Following the match moved to Glenthorne's home at Ford Sports & Social, Thornes boss Sam Rosenthal told JC Sport: "It was a good old fashioned close battle and we're pleased to come out as deserved winners."
Harmen manager Dan Uzan told JC Sport: "It was an excellent game and, in my opinion, a great advert for the MSFL. It was a real contest with some good football from both team.
"I thought Harmen defended professionally and countered on numerous occasions in the game, we very unlucky not to take our chances. Glenthorne scored from a corner and took the points, but I was proud of the boys yesterday and am sure we will build on the last two performances.
"So I'm diasappointed we lost, but looking froward to the rest of the season."

There was new year cheer for SPEC FC with strikes from Elliott Wallis, Ashley Burns and Craig Cohen helping Laurence Conway's troops complete a quickfire league double over Glenthorne B.
The impressive away win was SPEC's seventh victory of the season and keep them firmly in the promotion mix.
James Berkley netted for Glenthorne.
Thornes joint-player-manager Jordan Sapler told JC Sport: "It was disappointing to lose, but we showed glimpses of getting back to how we played earlier although we're still missing key bits in the team. We pushed forward and looked promising at 2-1, but were caught on the break for their third. We need to get out of the rut we're in at the moment and once we do we will start to win games."

Brady B finished in seventh heaven after leapfrogging Blancos and finishing the weekend in top spot following an impressive win over their promotion rivals.
Brady's goal-scoring heroes were player-manager Josh Dagul (2), Reiss Mogilner (2), Nathan Harrod, Daniel Harrod and Ollie Kay.
A delighted Josh Dagul told JC Sport: "We knew Blancos had won all five of their home games this season so wanted to start quickly and the team did exactly that being 4-0 up within 20 minutes.
"It was a great result and we are delighted to have moved to the top of the league."
Having snatched a consolation, Los Blancos player-manager Adam Hersh told JC Sport: "If ever a result didn't reflect the performance then this was it. LB didn't get going until 20 minutes in and by then they were 5-0 down and the game was as good as over.
"All in all not a fun morning and one to forget and learn from quickly."

A stunning injury-time effort from Oli Hitman earned Catford & Bromley a point following a six-goal thriller against relegation rivals Redbridge B at Fairlop.
Yonni Bord and top-scorer Jamie Sinai were the other scorers for the visitors.
Dan Wright and Dan Gordon (2) accounted for the RJC goals.
Catford captain Adam Luria told JC Sport: "It was an action-packed game which saw plenty of chances at both ends. We were disappointed to go in 1-1 at half time and looked down then Redbridge twice went ahead before Oli Hitman curled a beauty into the bottom corner from 20 yards deep into injury time."

Jewve top-scorer Richard Fogelman pulled one back for the visitors.
Faithfold player-manager David Garson told JC Sport: "We passed the ball around nicely today and should have been a little more clinical. Still I am happy with three points and delighted at how everyone responded to the change in formation. Stefan took his goals well for someone that looks so tired and unfit!"
Jewve player-manager Gabriel John told JC Sport: "Boris was the difference, he played us off the park. Barrel was very good too."

Two penalties from top-scorer Alex Elf saw Hendon C put a dent in Oakwood's title hopes following an entertaining 2-2 draw at Parmiters.
Oakwood looked in pole position to take the points after scoring in each half through Dave Eden, but Elf had other ideas, halving the deficit after an handball and hauling his team level after he was flattened in the area.
Oaks boss Ian Tussie told JC Sport: "Both were penalties were soft, but I can have no complaints as had they been at the other end I'd have wanted them given.
"Warwick is the best ref we have by a mile and he'll always explain his decision (plus he's six foot plus, Scottish and could probably snap me in half) so im not complaining.
"We should have killed the game off, instead once it's went 2-1 we were on shplikies and made mistakes what cost us."
