David Wolff, chairman of the JC Maccabi (Southern) Football League, has warned that teams will be responsible for ensuring the league programme is completed after heavy snow threw the season into turmoil.
The entire programme was cancelled last Sunday after freezing temperatures left pitches in the capital unplayable. The last two weeks have seen only a handful of games beat the weather and with only two divisions decided, Wolff’s committee met on Monday to discuss the rest of the campaign.
“It is a big problem,” said Wolff, “the worst we have experienced for a few seasons. The onus is now on the teams getting their games played. We are encouraging them to play double-headers where possible and suggest they also play midweek.”
Two teams in the Premier Division — London Maccabi Lions A and Faithfold A — still have five matches remaining and with FA regulations stipulating the season must finish by May 31, the committee has also agreed that points will be shared between teams unable to agree a date with a 0-0 result.
