Israel continued their impressive medal charge in Baku, with Sagi Muki claiming their first-ever gold of the the first Israeli to claim a gold medal at the European Games.
Muki, 23, overcame former European champion Dex Elmont in the last eight and secured first place with an ippon against Georgian Nugzari Tatalashvili 44 seconds to the end of the final to win the U73kg competition.
He said: "I’m really happy that I managed to be at my best in the competition.
“I felt really strong and sharp. I always believed that I could do this. It is really fun to represent the country and I was very proud to hear the national anthem in Azerbaijan.”
There was another medal for Israel in the judo when Yarden Gerbi, the former world champion, took bronze in the women's U63kg event, while compatriot Or Sasson won a silver medal in the men’s over-100kg contest.
Ziv Kalontarov recorded Israel's second gold of the Games in the swimming competition. Kalontarov, 18, set a senior national record of 22:16 seconds in the 50m freestyle final.
His performance also saw him crowned European youth champion and clinched his place in Israel's squad for Rio 2016.
