The heat was off Hendon United after I tipped AFC Flixton to win the Peter Morrison Trophy and manager David Garbacz was delighted spectators at Oldham Athletic saw "the real Hendon".
Treble winners last season, the Reds had slipped down the pecking order this season, with Norstar London Raiders stealing the limelight, but the Hendon boys saved the best for last with a performance to be proud of.
Flixton, who have two players in the Team Maccabi GB Open football squad, had steamrolled the majority of their opponents this season.
They were quietly confident of adding to Hendon's woes, especially with the holders missing midfield maestro Ben Lauffer, as well as long-term absentees Yoav Kestenbaum and Avidan Last.
But it was all about the boys who were there and the manager was also keen to make special mention of "our number one fan, Nick Slater, who made the long trip up north to come and support us today - the effort was hugely appreciated".
With the MGBSFL's end-of-season awards on the horizon, I believe the heroics of David Seitler have come a little too late to sway the judges, but he's certainly made a huge impression.
On the theme of awards, it's been quite some campaign for young Jordan Marks. He won the double with Raiders followed by the treble with Leeds Maccabi and chipped in with sensational goals in two major cup finals. I just hope there's space for all the silverware in the the family trophy cabinet.
Another team celebrating are North West Neasden. They looked doomed around Chanucah time, but manager Stirling Kay and his troops have done well to climb out of the danger zone and finish above a team with the resources of Maccabi London Lions.
In recent weeks, they treated every game like a cup final, with players playing as though their lives depended on it.
● I believe Dean Furman's best years are still ahead of him as he mulls over his next move. The South Africa captain, who recently returned from Josh Kennet's stag in Israel, will have plenty to reflect upon when he cheers on close friend Joe Jacobson at the League 1 Playoff final at Wembley tomorrow.
