May 23, 2018 10:02The Merseysiders added the MJSL title to this year’s honours board, fighting off stiff interest from Sedgley Park Celtic be crowned champions.
Defending champions Haroldeans clinched the championship following last Sunday’s 5-2 win over South Manchester 2nds.
Bloomberg, who also led the club to the Shonn Trophy and the Harold Feldman Cup, commented: “It’s been a fantastic season and I can’t commend the players enough.
“I think it’s been a real team effort. Everyone has chipped in and contributed at some stage or another. We’ve had to play a lot of games and we have been missing some injured players at times.
“But it’s a measure of a good side that can stick together to earn the results when it most matters.”
Haroldeans cemented their place in the history books following a five-star display, led by two-goal Taylor Moss. Adam Shiffman, Maxim Green and Bobby Fishel also struck to add the icing to the cake to spark wild celebrations.
Haroldeans were worthy winners after signing off their season with 100 goals in all competitions as well remaining unbeaten to lift the Joan Collins Trophy once again.
“We have achieved something special,” said Bloomberg. “Our attitude and effort has been spot on. Teams like Sedgley have pushed us this year but we stayed composed in a competitive league. To lose just one game, and that coming in the National Cup final 1-0, shows just how far we have come."
Haroldeans brought the curtain down on their season with a 1-1 draw with South Manchester 1sts, with Zack Goldsmith and South’s Charles Glaskie exchanging goals.
Fraser Saville said: "We've had an amazing season, losing just one game all season. Our tenth league title was without doubt the sweetest. Our only regret is not winning the Peter Morrison Trophy. In the end our injury list caught with us in that competition but overall the boys have been a credit to the club.
There might only have been pride to play for but there was personal glory at stake in the golden boot. That accolade went the way of Maccabi Manchester Yellow striker Ben Gould, whose hat-trick in the 5-2 win over Maccabi Manchester Blue sealed the deal.
It took Gould on to 24 goals for the season with the Haroldeans duo of Max Barnett and Shiffman falling just short after failing to add to their tally.
South Manchester Sports 1st, who were in title contention before falling away late on, were the only team not to lose both matches against Haroldeans all season.
South Manchester also fared well at the MJSL end-of-season awards. Joe Glaskie won the Young Player of the Year. The 1st picked up the Sporting Team of the Year while Neil Collins scooped the Secretary of the Year.
