Maccabi Haifa beat Hapoel Tel Aviv

Defending champions Maccabi Haifa maintained their 100 per cent record in this season’s Israeli Premier Division with a 2-1 win over Hapoel Tel Aviv at the Bloomfield Stadium.

First half strikes from captain Yaniv Katan and Eyal Golasa gave them the upper hand and although Itai Shechter pulled one back before haif time, the Greens went on to record their fourth league win of the campaign.

Haifa made a dream start with ex-West Ham player Katan putting them ahead from the penalty spot after Omri Canada handled in the area a minute into the contest.

Haifa coach Elisha Levy said: “ We scored nice goals and defended well.”

Hapoel coach Eli Gutman said: “We found ourselves one goal down before the match really started. I'm proud of my players, but the fatigue took its toll as the match progressed.
