Wonder kid Richard Goodman made a dream Maccabiah debut by winning the boys juniors 1,500 metres on Day Three at the Maccabiah Games.

Sitting on the heels of the leader after the first lap at Hadar Yosef, the Barnet Shaftesbury Harrier got his tactics spot on as he kicked on run away to leave the chasing pack in his shadow to win with plenty to spare.

Having crossed the line in 4:06:80, a delighted Goodman said: “I was really nervous so to win was really good. I went a bit early but wanted to make sure I didn’t lose my lead. These guys are good but I wanted to stick in and see what happens.

“Before the race, everyone in my hotel was saying that I would win so I’m relieved. Tomorrow I have the 3,000m so I hope to do the same thing.”
