Jono Gaon could hardly contain his delight after claiming the prestigious MGBSFL the Young Player of the Year award after an excellent season in front of goal.

The Los Blancos hotshot smashed 24 goals during the season to steer his team to fifth spot in Division One.

He told JC Sport: "I'm ecstatic to have won this award, with a lot of competition in the top division. I could not believe it when David Woolf called out my name, I was shell-shocked.

"However, I could not have done it without the players around me who showed class and determination towards the second half of the season.

"I'm extremely proud that I have been put in the same category as players such as Yoav Kestenbaum and Jake Doffman. I have competed with and against both and have always admired their ability."

The Liverpool-supporting goal-poacher, who is 19 and lives in Stanmore, was quizzed about next season, but Division One defences can breath a sigh of relief after he revealed that he will not be involved in the MGBSFL.

"Next season I’m in Israel with Bnei Akiva for year-long course," he said. "I would like to continue my football there and hope to return to Los Blancos after that.

"Also I would like to reiterate how I could not have a achieved this award without the extreme hard work and determination of my teammates. I would like to say a special thank you to my brother, Josh Gaon for convincing me to join Los Blancos as if I didnt join I would bot have been able to be as successful as I was.

"And I would like to wish them all the best for next season when I'm in Israel, but I'm sure with the talent they have in the squad, they will be able to push for promotion as I have always wanted to play in the Premier Division."
