He may not being going to the World Cup next year, but Dean Furman says the future looks bright for South Africa following a historic victory over World Cup holders Spain.

The Doncaster Rovers midfielder played most of the international friendly against a star-studded Spanish team including Xavi Iniesta, Xabi Alonso and Juan Mata in Johannesburg.

Furman said: "We had a game plan. We knew the Spanish team were going to keep the ball for large periods of the game, but we know we’ve got some great players who can catch them on the counter attack and the plan worked to perfection.

"Obviously, we’re delighted to get the win in front of our home fans. We cannot hide our disappointment in not going to the World Cup, but we have to look forward. I think we’ve got a terrific group of players and the squad is gelling all the time.
