London Lions once again produced a strong away performance as they put Buntingford Town to the sword with a 4-1 victory.
Leading up to kick-off Adam Myeroff who had just finished his warm up didn't have time to kick another ball as his wife Jude went into Labour.
Four hours later Lions were top of the league and out popped Jessica Grace Myeroff. The birth may have been easier compared to the opposition Lions were facing as the score line some what flattered the home side.
Had the Lions laced up their scoring boots the margin of victory may have been far greater but in all fairness the pitch had a considerable effect on affairs which made life quite difficult.
The game was all but over after 15 minutes as Lions started like a steam train scoring three goals in a breathe taking spell of football.
Adam Stolerman, who is now leading league goal scorer with 18 goals opened Lions account with a superbly well placed finish. Then Lee Cash, back after a hectic work schedule, scored a well-deserved second and it looked like is was going to be a long afternoon for Buntingford.
Two soon became three when Ben Lampert was on hand and first to react to smash the ball home and virtually kill the game off.
That however was as good as it got for the rest of the half as Lions continued to dominate and create good chances but suddenly lost the composure in front of goal to convert them.
After a slight reality check at half-time with a reminder that goal difference could be very important come the end of the season the Lions came out intent on building on all the good work that had gone before.
Two minutes in and Lions scored a forth with Stolerman getting his second of the afternoon. Again that is where the goals ended as far as the Lions were concerned.
Chance after chance came and went but still the Lions couldn't add to their already impressive tally and then on a rare counter attack Buntingford pulled a goal back after sloppy defending.
The game then fizzled out and with Met Police beating Codicote 2-0 the Lions for the first time this season went three points clear at the top.
Manager Tony Gold said: "The pitch was shocking and not conducive to the football we like to play, so I thought the lads adjusted superbly to being a little more direct then usual."
Next week Lions travel to high flying Kings Langley in the Herts Centenary Cup, when asked about their chances Gold said "We have a few key players out which is a shame but I think with the strength in depth we have as a squad I am looking forward to a very good competitive game of football".
