Ahead of Monday’s US Open, Shahar Peer has insisted that she has no intention of giving up tennis, despite slumping from a career high of 15 in the WTA rankings in 2007 to 63.
The 22-year-old said: “It is hard to put my finger on anything specific that has caused my loss of momentum. There was the Dubai scandal, some injuries and unnecessary losses. I am working very hard and doing well in practice but this is not being reflected in matches. I am not consistent.
“The most important thing is that I know and feel that I am doing the thing I love the most. I will keep working hard and believing, and that things will connect for me soon. I do feel like I am at least a top 30 level player.”
